T.I.S - School Athletics

An absolutely brilliant three days last week combined with the weather holding out despite many doubters and the forecasts of T.V. One's Mr Tamati Coffey. Many thanks to the teachers involved for the smooth running of the track and field rotations. Congratulations to our students for full participation across all events. The humility of our winners was great to watch. Hands were always shaken upon crossing the finish line and smiles shared as they posed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd photos.

Day One would see a new record set in the discuss by Felila Simanu from Room 30 Rimu House. She would also go on to be crowned the Year 7 Overall Girls Champion. The second day saw two records smashed one in the vortex was broken not once but twice. First by a distance of 5 metres by Justyce Te Kani of Room One Kahikatea House. Only to have this broken by Sione Tonga Rm 5 Manuka House in the next rotation. Sione made full use of a strong tail wind to throw an astonishing 69m. The second record of the day went to Year 8 Boys Overall Champion Kyle Hamilton in the discuss. Although the third day would fail to bring any new records it provided for a great spectacle of competition. Special mention to Lachlan Haycock who rose from adversity after injuring himself in the long jump pit on day one. Not only did he rise again, this speedy recovery saw him crowned the Boys Overall Year 7 Champion. A closely fought battle between Lachlan and Rawiri Brown from Rata House.
